Can I store a document, such as a microsoft word document in the vault?

No, you are not able to store a Microsoft Word document in the vault, you are however, able to store a Secure Note.

The difference is, not being able to upload/add a document to the vault, as opposed to typing/pasting a text note.

I don't know if there is a maximum size on a note so perhaps Base64-encode the document and then put it in a note.

The limit is 50K currently. Yes we realize that people want this and it's being discussed in our planning meetings now.
