How to check if my Firefox cookies are causing login problem

Postby StanH » Tue Jul 03, 2018 1:46 am

LastPass requires me to login every time I start Firefox. (ESR v52.8.1) I am wondering if there is something wrong with my cookies. There are 18 cookies related to LastPass.

How can I troubleshoot this?

LP doesn't fully support Firefox ESR as it is a limited version of Firefox. Though not supported you may still be able to use LastPass but encounter issues so I would recommend using FireFox 57 or later.

A lot of corporate environments use the ESR channel, so LastPass should support the extended service releases as long as it's a stable version, and not beta or legacy. The user should ensure that the browser's cookie configuration is correct: https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=11472

To troubleshoot:
1. Log into LastPass
2. Restart browser
3. ignore if the extension asks to you log in again
4. Go to https://lastpass.com/sess.php or https://lastpass.com/my.php

If you can see your account info without re-login at these URLs, then cookies are set correctly. If you need to login again to see, then relevant cookies have been cleared.

I logged in to my LastPass account at: https://lastpass.com/my.php?lpnorefresh=1,
restarted Firefox, and went to
https://lastpass.com/sess.php and got this:
=========
"Your Active LastPass Sessions
Delete Time User Agent IP Address Country
2018-07-03 15:19:43 c-73-65-23-204.hsd1.mn.comcast.net United States
2018-07-03 14:51:24 c-73-65-23-204.hsd1.mn.comcast.net United States
* Country is best effort based on public GeoCountry data.
========

I figured I am logged with both Firefox and Chrome, so I closed Chrome and did it again with just Firefox:
At LastPass.com I [login] & it says "loading your sites" and it fills in my email address. It doesn't accept my account password but it does take my master password. That was unexpected! I decline changing it. The icon turned red and it loaded my vault. The location is:
https://lastpass.com/?&ac=1&lpnorefresh ... ult=1&nk=1

I logout from the icon and exit Firefox & repeat. Same result.

Then I went to https://lastpass.com/my.php

Account Information
Email Address shi***@sa****s.com
Premium Status Inactive
Referral Program You have 0 months of free Premium through referrals.
Email Notifications Active
Gift Codes
Existing User Yes
Payment History

NOTE: I used to have a premium account but I let it expire when I started having troubles with xmarks and lastpass.

It looks to me like Firefox must logout of LastPass during shutdown.
EDIT: or could LastPass be trying to force me to change my master password?

What situation causes me to have two sessions running, according to https://lastpass.com/sess.php ?

Sorry, I don't follow. What's an account password? How is it different from your master password?

Also, don't try to open your vault in the website during the troubleshoot process. You always need to enter master password to open the vault in the website, and it could messes up session behavior. It's just not good for troubleshooting.

Actually, I just learned about https://lastpass.com/debug.php today. It's very good for troubleshooting. Follow the instructions there.

Every time you clear cookies before explicitly logging out of LastPass could leave behind a "zombie" session - the server still remembers this session, but you can never activate that session again because the cookies are gone.

Also, sessions shown in that page are not necessarily currently active. It just shows you all the session the server remembers.
If you logged into LastPass on multiple computers, and did not log out of any, you'll see multiple sessions even when you're only using one at a time.

I referred to the password that I use to access my account status on line as account password. I was not aware that the vault can also be accessed by URL -- as I usually use the icon. (when it is red)

I have never manually cleared cookies. No other programs were currently running.
