IE8: Slow Tabs and Crashes

Postby Skier » Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:46 am

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and LastPass v1.64.4

Having noticed that the opening and closing of new tabs in IE8 is slow and on closing often results in an 'IE8 has crashed' message (this only aplies to the particular tab, it doesn't crash the whole of IE8) I have narrowed the issue down to the LastPass toolbar. With the toolbar disabled all works perfectly and quickly; on re-enabling the toolbar the delays and occasional crashes return.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately that link doesn't take me anywhere. Could you recheck and repost?

Many thanks

I have exactly the same problem. It seems to happen most when I open a new tab via right click on a link and then close that tab later. But not on all web sites. It doesn't crash all of IE8 but only that tab seems to crash and give an error. There is no error when I disable Lastpass toolbar.

Hi Joe,

I've only been using the 'pre' version for around 30 minutes. It would appear to have resolved the issue of slow opening and closing of tabs. However, I have suffered two crashes. Once again it's only a closing tab that crashes, not the whole of IE8.

I had exactly the same problems with IE8 tabs being very slow to close and occasional IE8 crashes/lockups on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system. My system is fully upto date with Windows Updates.

Also, as mentioned by others, disabling the lastpass IE Toolbar resolves the problem, so it is definately a lastpass toolbar related issue.

I have now installed the 'x64pre' version mentioned and the IE8 tabs problem has gone. It is too soon to see if the crashes/lockups have also been fixed. If not, i will report back.

So far, so good. Thanks.

I too get an "Internet Explorer has stopped working" crash nearly every time I close a tab, and like others in this thread by disabling Lastpass I have proven that it is the presence of Lastpass which casuses the problem.
This is on a Windows 7 x64 system, under IE8. (Firefox on the same system works fine with LastPass).

LastPass, thanks for your excellent software, and please keep working on these IE8 tab crashes...

I have dropped the IE plugin completely - My recommendation: FireFox3.6 + LastPass plug 1.66.0
And disable the IE plugin !
