Lastpass prompting to install, but no new version

Postby ccrawford » Tue May 18, 2010 10:17 am

I'm geting the red "an updated lastpass toolbar..." notification, and if I click to install the installer seems to run, but I still get prompted the next time I restart my laptop.

If I choose Lastpass->tools->check for updates, it tells me no updates available. About says I have version 1.68.2 on IE8 on top of Windows 7. Firefox extension also installed.

Any ideas?

I think I may have seen the issue -- can you report if it happens anymore? If so I've added it to one of our testing cases so you shouldn't see it anymore.

Still happening. Seems to happen only after a reboot. Will look a little more to see if I can provide additional details.

One of my PC have this problem. The PC is running Winodws 7 with LP 1.69.0 for IE 8, 1.69.1 for Firefox 4 beta 1 and 1.69.1 for Chrome. LastPass works on all these browsers without issue except IE8 keeps display the "An updated Lastpass is available". If I click update, it will go through the motion to update LP but the prompt will show up again after I start up IE8 again.
I have uninstall/install LastPass but the issue remains.

I do not see what trigger the update prompt from showing up?

Bizarre -- I can't see how this could happen. If this is still happening to anyone would like to see the LastPass Icon -> tools -> About screenshot in IE

See attached. The about screenshot is not superimposed to the update prompt. Other than cropped the image for privacy reason, no modification has been done.

Is there anyway to remove/delete all trace of LastPass? I noticed my preferences are kept across uninstall and install. Can I be one of the registry entry is corrupted?

What do you mean I am running an old version? The one I have is 1.69.0 which is the same one at http://www.lastpass.com/download.

Furthermore, if I click LP's icon -> Tools -> check for updates, LP will show I have the latest...

Sorry, I thought this was Chrome which is at 1.69.3.

Can you try running the installer manually with all web browsers closed?

I did:
- download lastpass.exe form lastpass.com and save to disk
- uninstall LastPass
- shutdown PC
- power up PC
- install lastpass.exe with all browsers closed
- open IE8, Firefox 4 & Chrome to verify LastPass has been installed correctly
- close IE8, Firefox 4 & Chrome
- open/close IE8 several times and got the update prompt. See attached.

From past experience, it makes no difference if I dismiss the upgrade or allow the upgrade to proceed. Either way, the occurrences of upgrade prompt is random and my rough guess is maybe 25~30% of times I will get the upgrade prompts out of IE8 startup.
