Installer Not Working - Blank Dialog

Postby N0YB » Sun Jun 09, 2019 6:46 am

Download and run installer. Very briefly flashes a splash screen in the installer dialog window, too quick to really see what it is, think it just says "LastPass..." then the installer dialog window goes all white and nothing more happens. Attempting to move (drag) the installer dialog window results in
An unhandled exception was thrown: Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program., source: PresentationCore

Task manger show plenty (many gigs) of memory available.

Same behavior on multiple Windows 8.1 Pro, Core i3/i5, 8GB RAM, systems.

LastPass Universal Windows Installer

Please help. Thanks.

Does their support monitor this forum at all?
There are multiple posts of people having issues installing their software and nothing. No responses at all.

Did that before even posting here. It's been 3 business days (5 total) now and not a peep from them. Only the automated email confirming the ticket was received.

Hello,

This is just a note to let you know we've received your support request. The LastPass support team is working on it and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Your ticket number is 09822874

The LastPass Support Team

P.S. Don't even see a way to view and update ticket. At least I wasn't able to reasonably find it and no link in confirmation email. It's like a black hole.

I just received a reply from support who directed me to the normal download link, https://lastpass.com/misc_download2.php
I downloaded and ran the LastPassInstaller.exe on my Windows 10 1809 system as a local administrator and received the same error as before, “This application requires PowerShell 1.0 or higher. Please install PowerShell and run this installer again”. Then "Installation failed, error code 1603".
I've verified that Powershell is installed on the machine.

Solved a combined error 1618 + 1603 for two Win10x64 v1903 (May 2019 build) by enabling the Windows Feature "Windows PowerShell 2.0 Engine" - I really was missing PowerShell 1.0! (and 2.0).

Heres a quick guide for what fixed it for me:
Goto "Control Panel" --> "Programs and Features" --> "Turn Windows Features on or off" (left side, you can also just type this into Start) --> FIND & CLICK CHECKBOX FOR: "Windows PowerShell 2.0" (near the bottom) -> this should have only one item under it, "Windows PowerShell 2.0 Engine", which gets checked when you check the parent category --> Click OK/etc. to save & close

After that, I went back to my previously downloaded installer from LastPass' download page @ [ https://lastpass.com/misc_download2.php ] - The installer went-through just as it normally does. Maybe the new build of windows is finally not including older versions of PowerShell by-default?

Either way, hope this helps. Cheers.

Installing Powershell 2.0 should not be the solution. Microsoft has depreciated PS 2.0 since the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. In an enterprise setting we've disabled PS 2.0 and now this installer requires it. The installer says it needs 1.0 or higher but obviously that's not happening as we are using PS 5.0 and the installer still prompts.

So for those who are enabling PS 2.0, do so at your own risk as you are most likely opening your system to vulnerabilities.
