Installer very confusing

Postby milliondl293 » Tue Aug 11, 2015 5:51 pm

I think the Windows installer is a bit of a mess.

Today I updated Firefox to version 40 (on Windows 10). Firefox showed the Lastpass extension as "could not be verified", so I thought I needed an update. Went to lastpass.com and got the full Windows installer, which I noticed FINALLY said 3.2.16 instead of 3.1.95. Downloaded and installed it and...the Firefox extension did not change at all. Still 3.2.16a.

The Chrome extensions on the download page show as versions 3.2.20 and 3.2.21. So I clicked on the 3.2.21 download and got...exactly the same download package as when I downloaded the full installer before. The Chrome extension in there was 3.2.16. I don't know where this 3.2.21 stuff is coming from.

I think someone needs to pay some attention to the download page and clean it up and de-confuse it.

Ignore the verification caution message or replace the extension with the copy in the Mozilla add-on store.

That really doesn't address any of the issues in my post.

1. 3.2.16a is the latest version of the Firefox extension.
2. 3.2.21 is the version available in the Google Chrome store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... d?hl=en-US . You are downloading the installer because it's the option that includes binary features for the native messaging client. You need to run the universal installer to install that piece on your computer.
3. If the installer packages an earlier version of the Chrome extension, the browser should poll the Google Chrome store and grab the latest copy.

Fine and dandy. It's still confusing as hell.

I agree!
I was about to start my own thread when I saw this.

Why doesn't the installer version match the installed version?
i.e. LastPass version 3.2.16 is actually 3.1.95 for windows installer (right click and choose properties and look at the version info)

 I would suggest including version numbers in the file name to make it easier to see if we have the latest version available.
example LastPass-v3.2.16.exe & LastPass64-v3.2.16.exe (and make the installer version match the product version)

The version stamp in the file information properties is a typo. The installer is really 3.2.16.

:?: Why does it remain unfixed? It can't be that hard to change :?:

Quality is in the details after all. :|
